I love metal. Anybody will tell you that. I love it so hard. I love butt rock and glam metal and hardcore and nu metal and even good old-fashioned heavy metal. Trigram is metal with an industrial edge. I usually dig bands like that.
Their new self-titled EP comes to us promising content discussing comfort in this new dystopian age of social media.
Sounds neat.
But is it? There’s really only one way to find out.
Let’s listen to it.
Watch the music video for “Assimilate” on YouTube here:
The title track “Assimilate” comes out of the gates strong. It has a “Disturbed” vibe. Lyrically it’s definitely speaking truth to the sheep culture that social media promotes. The verse-chorus-bridge-chorus-verse here works really well. It’ll get stuck in your head. It rocks. “Entropy” has a sludge-y feel to it that reminds me of Dirt-era Alice In Chains. That’s a good thing. It’s melodic but isn’t sing-song-ey. Really strong tune. “Bleed Out” is next and it continues the Alice In Chains vibe. Really good rhythm section work on this one. Not my favorite track on the EP but it’s still strong. The final song on the record is “Tick Down” and it’s aptly titled. It’s kicking it down a notch for sure. Still rocks. Really good effort here.
I really enjoyed this EP. It’s well sung and all the songs really rock in a smart way. I reckon we will be hearing a lot more from Trigram in the not-so-distant future. I can’t wait to hear a full-length release from these guys
